The short version

We collect as little as we can. Kids don't give us their name or email.
No ads. We never sell or rent anyone's information.
No tracking or analytics cookies. One cookie keeps you signed in.
Kids' work is private to their class or family unless a grown-up shares it.
You can delete your account, and everything in it, whenever you want.

What we collect

Guests

A random name like guest-3f9a2c and the projects you make. Nothing about you. Guest accounts that nobody uses for 30 days are deleted automatically.

Students added by a teacher or parent

The nickname the adult chose, a secret word for signing in, and the student's projects and assignment work. We don't ask students for their name, email, age or anything else.

People 13 and older who sign up on their own

A username, a password (stored scrambled, so even we can't read it) and your projects. You can add an email for resetting a forgotten password. That's optional. We ask for your birth month and year once, to check your age, and don't store it.

Teachers and parents

Your email, a password (stored scrambled), a username, and for teachers the school name. Plus your classes, the student accounts you create, and your projects.

School and district inquiries

If you fill in the form on our home page: your name, work email, school, role and message.

Children under 13

Children under 13 can't make an account by themselves. If someone tells us they're under 13, we ask them to get a parent, or to play as a guest, which collects nothing about them. Accounts for younger kids are created by a parent, or by a teacher acting for their school. Schools are responsible for getting any consent their rules require.

Parents and teachers can see, change or delete the student accounts they created at any time, from their class or family page. You can also email us at privacy@madeinclass.com to review or delete a child's information.

How we use it

To run Made in Class: sign you in, save your projects, and show your work to the people you choose.
To let teachers and parents see and give feedback on the work of students in their classes.
To send adults emails they ask for, like password resets. No newsletters unless you ask.
To keep the service safe, for example by limiting repeated sign-in attempts.

We don't use student information for advertising, and we don't build profiles of students for anything other than running the classroom features their teacher or parent uses.

Who can see your work

Your projects are private until you publish them.
Published projects and portfolios are visible to your classmates and teachers (or your family). They're only public to everyone if a teacher or parent chooses that, or if you're 13+ and choose it yourself in Settings.
Anyone you share a class with can see and remix the projects you've published.

Cookies and storage

Sign-in cookie: keeps you signed in for up to 30 days.
Age check: if someone says they're under 13, a cookie remembers that for one day.
Your browser's storage: previews of your projects can save things like game high scores in your own browser. It never leaves your device.

That's all. No analytics, no ad trackers, no third-party cookies.

Services we rely on

jsDelivr delivers the files that let Python run in your browser. Your browser downloads them directly from jsDelivr, which sees your IP address, like any website you visit.
Our email provider (Resend) delivers password-reset emails to adults.

We only share information with these providers as needed to run the service, and never for advertising.

Keeping and deleting data

Delete your account any time in Settings. Teachers and parents deleting their account also delete the student accounts they created.
Teachers and parents can delete any student account they created from the class page.
Unused guest accounts are deleted after 30 days.
Deleted data may remain in our backups for up to 14 days before it’s gone for good.

Security

Passwords are stored scrambled (hashed). Student secret words are stored so their teacher or parent can reprint login cards. All connections to Made in Class are encrypted. Student projects run on a separate website address from the main app, so code in one project can't reach your account or anyone else's work.
