Assignments

Hand everyone the same starter project, let each student make it their own, and review what comes back.

For teachers and parents

Creating one

Press + New assignment on a class page. You'll fill in:

  • Title, like "Make Snake yours".
  • Instructions. Plain text; line breaks are kept, so numbered steps work well.
  • Students start from: a blank website, a blank Python program, any of the Remix Library projects, or one of your own projects. Students get a copy of it as it is right now; editing your project later won't change their starters.
  • Due (optional). Work turned in after it is marked late, but still accepted.
Shortcut: on any Library project's page, pick a class next to ๐Ÿ“ Assign and the form opens with that project already chosen.

Watching progress

The assignment page shows a progress bar and a row per student:

StatusMeaning
Not startedThey haven't opened it yet.
Working on itThey've started but not turned it in.
Turned inWaiting for you to review. Tagged late if after the due date.
โœ“ Looks goodYou approved it.
Needs changesYou sent it back with feedback.

Reviewing

Press Review to see exactly what the student turned in: their code, running next to it (Python has a Run button), and a feedback box.

  • โœ“ Looks good approves it.
  • Needs changes sends it back to their To do list with your feedback.
  • โœ“ Looks good, next student โ†’ approves and jumps to the next one waiting.
  • โ† Prev / Next โ†’ move between students who've turned something in.

What you see is a snapshot from when they pressed Turn in. If they keep editing afterwards, you won't see those changes until they turn in again.

Deleting an assignment

Delete assignment at the bottom of its page (two clicks) removes it and everyone's submissions. Students' own copies of the project stay in their projects.

For students

  1. Find it in ๐Ÿ“ To do on My projects, or on your class page.
  2. Press Start assignment to get your own copy.
  3. Work on it. The bar at the top of the editor shows the due date and your status.
  4. Press Turn in. You can keep working and Turn in again as many times as you like; your teacher sees the latest.
  5. If it comes back as Needs changes, press Read feedback, fix it, and turn it in again.
