🍎 Getting started as a teacher
From zero to a class full of students coding in about ten minutes. It's free, and your students don't need email addresses.
1. Make your account
Go to Sign up → I'm a teacher. You'll need your school email, a
password (at least 8 characters), your school's name, and what students call you, like ms-lee. That last one shows on your classes as @ms-lee.
2. Create a class
On Classes, type a name like "Period 3 Web Design" and press Create class. Every class gets a six-character class code. It never uses 0/O or 1/I, so it can be read off a projector without mix-ups.
3. Add your students
On the class page, under Add students, type nicknames, one per line or separated by commas:
sam
riley
zoe - Each student gets an account and a secret word like
bluefox27. No email, no password to forget. - Use first names or made-up names, not full names.
- If a name is taken at your school, it gets a number added (
sam2). - Names with rude words are refused.
4. Hand out login cards
Press Show login cards, then 🖨 Print. Each card has the web address, the class code, the student's name and their secret word. Cut them out and hand them out.
Students sign in at madeinclass.com/class-login: type the class code, tap their name, type their secret word. If a student loses their card, use Reset secret word on the class page to give them a new one.
5. Give an assignment
Press + New assignment on the class page, or open any project in the Remix Library and use 📝 Assign. Pick what students start from, write instructions, and set a due date if you want. Each student gets their own copy. More about assignments →
6. Review and give feedback
The assignment page shows who's started, who's turned in, and who's late. Press Review to see a student's code running next to a feedback box, then choose ✓ Looks good or Needs changes. Looks good, next student → moves you through the stack quickly.
Who can see student work?
- By default, only people in the class: classmates and you.
- On the class page you can switch any student's portfolio to Public. Only you can do that, not the student.
- Published projects show in the Class gallery on the class page.
